Reddit replies that don't get removed

Most founder replies on Reddit get downvoted or deleted. A simple four-part structure keeps yours helpful, honest and on the right side of the rules.

Reddit is the best place to find people asking for your product, and the fastest place to get banned for mentioning it. The difference is almost always the structure of the reply.

The four-part reply

  1. Answer the actual question in the first sentence.
  2. Add one detail that shows you have dealt with the problem yourself.
  3. Disclose that you built something, plainly.
  4. Make the link optional, not the point.

If your reply would still be useful with the link deleted, it is a good reply.

Read the sidebar first

Every subreddit has its own self-promotion rules. Some allow it in weekly threads only, some ban links entirely. Spend thirty seconds on the rules before you spend ten minutes on the reply.

A template you can adapt

Had the same issue at ~50 users. What fixed it for us was X.
(Disclosure: I built a small tool for this, happy to share if useful.)

Keep it short. Long replies read like ads, even when they are not.
