What a "no thanks" tells you

When someone replies that your tool isn't quite what they need, that's free research. Ask one question and write down the answer.

1 min read

You reply to a Reddit post asking for a tool, and the answer comes back: "Thanks, but not quite what I need." Most founders stop there. Don't.

Ask one short question

  • "Fair enough. What would it need to do for you?"
  • Keep it to one line, with no pitch and no link.
  • Thank them whatever they say.

Write the answer down

Put each answer next to the post it came from. After five or six, you'll usually see one of three things: a missing feature, a price that's too high, or a description that made people expect something else.

The third one is the cheapest to fix. Change one sentence on your homepage and see if the next replies go better.

First10 brings you the posts. The people who say no tell you what to change.
