Keep it in the thread, not their DMs

When someone asks for a tool on Reddit, answer in public. A cold DM feels like spam, and a thread reply keeps working for everyone who finds it later.

It's tempting to message the asker privately. It feels more personal, and nobody else sees your pitch. But an unsolicited DM from a stranger with a product link reads as spam, and many subreddits ban it outright.

Why the public reply wins

  • The asker can check your answer against the other replies, which builds trust.
  • People who search the same question later find your comment too.
  • Mods can see you're helping, not hustling.

What to do instead

  • Answer the question in the thread first, link second.
  • Offer help in public: "happy to answer setup questions here."
  • Only move to DMs if they ask you to.

First10 finds Reddit posts where people ask for a tool like yours, so your public reply lands while the thread is still active.
